Wärtsilä Energy Storage

Wärtsilä Corporation is a Helsinki-listed technology group for marine and energy markets. Its stationary storage business is the Energy Storage & Optimisation unit (Wärtsilä ES&O), built on Greensmith Energy, acquired in 2017; the GEMS platform and BMS are engineered in the United States. Wärtsilä does not make cells; the current GridSolve portfolio has three products: Quantum High Energy (1,629 kWh LFP enclosure using 306 Ah cells, paired with third-party inverters), Quantum2 (4,073 kWh pre-installed 20 ft DC block, hybrid liquid cooling) and Quantum3 (5,016 kWh 20 ft AC block with internal string inverters, availability stated as 2026). Hardware is manufactured under contract, notably by RCT Power in Malaysia. Solution sheets do not disclose cell suppliers, cell chemistry for Quantum2/Quantum3, block-level power ratings, round-trip efficiency, cycle life, warranty length (beyond a two-year standard for Quantum HE) or ingress ratings. Certifications listed are UL 9540A unit and container-level fire testing, NFPA 855, large-scale fire tests witnessed by CSA Group and IEC 62443-4 for cybersecurity. Deliveries (19+ GWh, 130+ projects) are concentrated in North America, the UK, Europe and Australia. Wärtsilä was named on the BNEF Q2 2026 Tier 1 energy storage list.
