Data hall

A data hall is the raised-floor or slab room inside a data center building where server racks, network gear and cooling units are installed — distinct from the electrical yards, generator plant and office space around it. Operators quote capacity per hall as well as per building: a single hall can range from a few hundred square meters in an urban colocation site to well over 10,000 square meters on a hyperscale campus. Splitting a building into two or more halls lets an operator isolate fire, electrical and cooling zones from each other and phase fit-out independently, and lets a large tenant get physical separation between halls without leasing a separate building. Colocation lease terms usually quote available white space in racks or square meters per hall rather than per building, since that is the unit customers actually contract for.
