Top 50 data centers by Coloprice Score

Sorted by total score; ties broken by resilience, then published MW. Bars show the five axes as a share of their maximum. A dashed class means the operator disclosed too little for a class to be assigned — the score is still computed.

How the score is calculated

Five axes, 100 points. Each axis is derived from fields on the facility card, and each field cites its source. What an operator has not published scores zero on that axis — the score rewards disclosure, not size or brand.

Resilience — up to 35 points

The reliability tier (Uptime, TIA-942 or JDCC) weighted by the class of evidence: certified operations count in full, a certified constructed facility slightly less, a certified design about 60%, and a self-declared "Tier III" with no certificate cited under half. Operators that never certify with Uptime (their own standards) get partial credit for continuity and operations audits — ISO 22301, SOC 2 Type II, ISAE 3402 — but less than a Tier.

Compliance — up to 20 points

Independent audits the facility publishes, grouped so that ten security certificates do not outweigh one continuity audit: information security (ISO 27001, SOC 2, ISAE 3402), payment and privacy (PCI DSS, ISO 27701, 27017/18), business continuity (ISO 22301), energy and environment (ISO 50001/14001, LEED, BREEAM, Green Mark), service management (ISO 20000/9001) and sector-specific schemes (HIPAA, HDS, FISMA, government).

Transparency — up to 20 points

How many of seven key fields the operator publishes: IT power in MW, floor space, rack count, maximum rack density, year opened, street address and renewable share. A portal about open data must reward openness — a facility that discloses all seven fields earns the full 20 points regardless of how large it is.

Scale — up to 15 points

Published IT power on a logarithmic scale — roughly 1 MW → 5, 10 MW → 10, 100 MW → 15 — so a campus does not crush a well-run 2 MW site. Liquid cooling and declared AI readiness add two points each as signs of current engineering.

Maturity — up to 10 points

Operational facilities score above those under construction, which score above announcements. Age adds a little: two to ten years in service is the sweet spot; newer sites have no track record, older ones tend to carry aging plant.

Classes and the "limited data" rule

A ≥ 80 · B ≥ 65 · C ≥ 50 · D ≥ 35 · E below. A class is not assigned when the operator discloses fewer than three of the seven key fields and has neither a tier nor a third-party audit — there is not enough evidence to grade honestly. The score is still computed and shown, marked "limited data", and the facility still ranks.

Facilities under construction or announced are scored too, but their resilience reflects the declared design, and the maturity axis makes that visible.

How operators raise their score

  1. Publish the seven key fields — MW, floor space, racks, density, year, address, renewable share. Transparency alone is 20 points, and most facilities in the catalog leave more than half of it on the table.
  2. Cite the certificate, not the claim. A self-declared Tier III scores under half of a certified one; a certified constructed facility or operations certification scores in full.
  3. Cover more than one audit family: security is common, continuity (ISO 22301) and energy (ISO 50001, LEED) are rare and each adds points on its own.
  4. Send corrections with a source. Every facility card lists its sources; a link to the operator's own spec sheet or certificate register updates the card, and the score follows on the next build.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Coloprice Score?

A 0–100 score for each data center in the Coloprice catalog, computed from five axes — resilience (35), compliance (20), transparency (20), scale (15) and maturity (10) — using only data the operator has published and Coloprice has verified against primary sources. It is a measure of evidence, not of marketing.

Why does a large, well-known operator score low?

Because the score counts what is published for that specific facility. Many large operators do not disclose MW, rack counts or density per site and do not certify with Uptime, so they lose points on transparency and resilience even when the engineering is excellent. Publishing the fields and citing certificates raises the score immediately.

Do user reviews affect the score?

No. Reviews are shown next to the score as a separate scale, so a rating cannot be inflated by reviews and reviews cannot be inflated by a rating. The score is reproducible from the facility card alone.

How often is the ranking recalculated?

On every build of the site — whenever a facility card changes, the score and all rank positions update. The methodology itself is versioned (2026.08); when weights change, the version changes and the change is documented on this page.

Who pays for placement?

Nobody. There is no paid placement, no sponsored position and no way to buy points. Operators can only move by disclosing more data or citing more certificates — which is exactly what the score is designed to reward.
