Remote Power Panel (RPP)
A remote power panel (RPP) is a data hall cabinet that splits upstream feeds into branch circuits for racks. Placing the panel near the row shortens the final cable run, so a fault or maintenance on one branch circuit does not require shutting down a whole hall. A typical RPP is fed from a UPS output and contains circuit breakers and metering for each branch, giving operators visibility of load per row. In dual-corded designs, an A-side and a B-side RPP serve each rack, which supports concurrent maintainability. Operators size RPPs by amperage and by the number of poles, and the rack power density a hall is designed for determines how many are needed. RPPs are sometimes confused with PDUs, but the PDU in the rack or row is the next step downstream.
