Samsung Group Commits $1 Billion to KKR-Backed Helix Digital Infrastructure

Samsung Electronics and five affiliates have committed a combined $1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, the AI infrastructure platform KKR founded in June 2026, according to an announcement dated 28 September 2026 and reported by Korean and US media on 29 September. Samsung Electronics is putting in $500 million; the other $500 million comes from five group companies. No capacity, site list or valuation was disclosed.

What is known

Per the announcement, Helix invests in, delivers and manages infrastructure for AI workloads: hyperscale data centers, power generation and transmission, fiber connectivity and related systems, initially across North America and globally. It is led by Adam Selipsky, formerly CEO of Amazon Web Services, as CEO and co-founder.

The Samsung money is split between Samsung Electronics ($500 million) and Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. The Korea Times reported the group’s stated aim as strengthening its foothold in the wider data center ecosystem. The announcement says the investment is made through Samsung’s long-duration capital vehicle and builds on more than $10 billion already committed by founding investors KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and Vistra.

The strategic logic is visible in the list of contributors. The announcement points to Samsung capabilities in semiconductors, data center cooling (through its FläktGroup subsidiary), engineering and construction, IT infrastructure and operations, and power supply and battery systems. Those are the same components Helix would need to procure for a campus, so the investment looks as much like a supplier relationship as a financial one. The announcement does not say so explicitly; this is our reading of the stated cooperation areas.

CEO Selipsky described the commitment in the announcement as a strong vote of confidence in Helix’s strategy that deepens its long-term capital base.

What it means for buyers of capacity

For a colocation or wholesale buyer, this is a capital-side story, not a supply-side one. Helix has not named a campus or a megawatt figure, so nothing in this announcement changes availability in any market we track. It adds to a pattern we have covered in recent weeks: large pools of private and strategic capital are being assembled specifically to combine data centers with power, the scarcest input. See our notes on the SK Horizon spin-off and on the narrowing IPO window.

The practical effect for tenants is indirect. Platforms of this type compete for the same grid interconnects, transformers, cooling equipment and construction crews as everyone else, which tends to lengthen delivery timelines and support firm pricing on new leases in constrained markets. To see where wholesale rates currently sit, use the Colocation Price Index; for the power side of the equation, see our energy hub. Deal-level context is collected on the transactions tracker.

What we do not yet know

  • Where Helix will build. No sites, countries or customers have been named.
  • Capacity. No MW or GW target was published.
  • Valuation and stakes. Neither the Helix valuation nor the ownership percentage represented by Samsung’s $1 billion was disclosed.
  • Whether Samsung affiliates will be suppliers. The cooperation areas are listed, but no supply agreements were announced.

We will update our data only when Helix publishes a site or a capacity figure.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Samsung investing in Helix and who contributes what?

Samsung committed $1 billion in total, announced on 28–29 September 2026. Samsung Electronics contributes $500 million; Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance provide the remainder, per the announcement and Korea Times reporting.

What is Helix Digital Infrastructure?

Helix is an AI infrastructure company launched by KKR in June 2026 and led by former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky. It targets hyperscale data centers, power generation and transmission, and fiber connectivity, with more than $10 billion committed by KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and Vistra before Samsung joined.

Does this add data center capacity that colocation buyers can lease?

Not directly. No sites, megawatt figures or delivery dates were disclosed. It is capital for a build-to-suit platform aimed at hyperscale customers, so any effect on colocation availability would come later, through competition for power and construction capacity.
