Entel El Alto Data Center

Entel S.A., Bolivia's state-owned telecommunications operator, inaugurated a new data center in El Alto — the city adjoining La Paz on the Andean altiplano — in February 2025, following a reported investment of about $52 million. Bolivian outlet Ahora El Pueblo describes the facility as covering approximately 4,500 m² and equipped with 500 kW of generator capacity to ensure reliable operation. Entel designed the site to a Tier III standard, and it appears in the Uptime Institute registry (under the legacy label 'Centro de Computo Entel La Paz 1') with Tier III certification for both design documents and constructed facility. The data center is intended to give public and private-sector organizations in Bolivia a secure, standards-compliant environment to store and manage their data, alongside Entel's existing mobile, fixed-line, internet, television and enterprise digital-services business. As Bolivia's incumbent state telecom, Entel positions the site as part of the country's broader push toward domestic digital-infrastructure sovereignty rather than relying solely on cloud capacity hosted abroad.
