GTD Data Center Cayena

GTD Colombia, part of Chilean telecom and IT group GTD, built its Cayena data center in Barranquilla as a US$20 million investment and its second Colombian facility after the existing El Poblado site in Medellín. Construction began in 2023 on a green-building design spanning roughly 6,200 sqm, organized into four server rooms with capacity for 52 IT racks each — 208 racks in total — plus data storage and transfer infrastructure and a fiber network GTD describes as exceeding 500 km reaching across the region. The facility holds an Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Design Documents. Barranquilla's local government has promoted the city as an aspiring 'digital superport' on Colombia's Caribbean coast, and Cayena is positioned to serve that push alongside GTD's existing telecom infrastructure business in the country. GTD does not publish IT power capacity in megawatts for the site. The addition gives GTD a second Colombian metro beyond Bogotá- and Medellín-heavy competition from Equinix, Aligned, Ascenty and Scala.
