The Djibouti Data Centre (DDC) was Wingu Africa's first facility, founded in 2012 in Djibouti City at a location the operator describes as sitting at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East and the world's major subsea cable systems. Wingu markets the site as Tier III-aligned infrastructure, with 42U racks (extended to 1,200mm depth), perforated doors rated for 86% airflow, dual fault-tolerant power paths, UPS with lead-acid batteries and on-site generators carrying roughly 30 days of fuel. Neither Uptime Institute nor TIA-942 lists a formal certification for this specific building, so the Tier III description remains the operator's own characterization. The facility's main significance is connectivity: Wingu cites landings or links to a dozen submarine cable systems, including SMW-3, EIG, EASSy, AAE-1 and SEA-ME-WE-5, reaching nine neighboring countries, and it hosts the AMS-IX Djibouti internet exchange point operated in partnership with AMS-IX. No power capacity, floor space or rack-count totals are published for the building; the operator's newer TO7 Technology Park facility, opened in 2024, has since supplemented DDC's role as Djibouti's carrier-neutral hub.
