OVHcloud Strasbourg Campus

OVHcloud has operated a data center campus in Strasbourg, in the Alsace region near the German border, since 2012. The site became internationally known in March 2021, when a fire destroyed one of its buildings, SBG2, and forced a temporary shutdown of a neighboring hall - one of the most-reported outages in European cloud history. OVHcloud rebuilt on the same campus rather than abandoning it: SBG5 opened in September 2022 as a EUR30 million, 1,700 sqm building engineered around fire compartmentalization, with 19 separate rooms enclosed by masonry walls rated for two hours of fire resistance, APSAD R13-certified gas suppression and APSAD R7-certified VESDA smoke detection, and energy and battery rooms placed in structures separate from the server halls. Cooling follows OVHcloud's standard approach across its French sites: a closed-circuit water-cooling loop for server components that the company says keeps water usage below 0.2 liters per kilowatt-hour and delivers a power usage effectiveness between 1.1 and 1.2. Strasbourg belongs to OVHcloud's SecNumCloud-qualified region alongside Gravelines and Roubaix, and its French facilities operate under the same ISO 27001-family and HDS health-data certifications as those two campuses.
