DC1-Stavanger is Green Mountain's original data center, built inside a former NATO ammunition storage facility carved into a mountain on the island of Rennesøy, near Stavanger, Norway. Opened in 2013, the site comprises six two-story mountain halls totaling 23,000 square meters, with a maximum IT capacity of 25 MW certified to Uptime Institute Tier III standard. Three independent grid connections, each fed by multiple hydropower plants, supply renewable electricity. Cooling draws on an adjacent fjord: water pulled from more than 75 meters depth stays a stable 8°C year-round, feeding heat exchangers that keep the facility's average PUE at 1.18 without mechanical chillers for most of the year. The mountain structure, originally built to withstand military attack, gives the site a naturally high physical security profile alongside standard access controls. Data rooms range from 50 to 1,550 square meters, letting operators scale from single racks to multi-megawatt deployments within the same converted facility.
