OADC Durban (DUR1) — Top 10 data centers in South Africa 2026
#4 of 26 · See the list →

OADC Durban (DUR1) is Open Access Data Centres' facility in Amanzimtoti, just south of Durban, and hosts the only 2Africa subsea cable landing station into KwaZulu-Natal — the fourth 2Africa landing point on South Africa's coast, with a stated 4 MW of landing-station capacity within the wider 8 MW site load. The operator's published specifications list 2,000 m² of technical space with N+1 cooling redundancy across the site. Like OADC's other South African buildings, the facility is marketed as "Designed to Tier-III standards" — a design-intent claim from the operator rather than a Uptime Institute or EPI third-party certification — alongside an ISO 27001 information-security certification. DUR1 is one of eleven buildings OADC operates in South Africa, assembled largely from the operator's 2025 acquisition of seven former NTT/Dimension Data sites plus newly built additions including a second Durban-area site, Umhlanga (DUR2). OADC positions the Durban cluster as an alternative Indian Ocean connectivity gateway to routing East Coast traffic through Johannesburg or Cape Town.

  • Only 2Africa subsea cable landing station into KwaZulu-Natal (4th on SA's coast)
  • 8 MW site load, 2,000 m² technical space, N+1 cooling
  • ISO 27001; "Designed to Tier-III standards" is an operator design claim, not a certification
  • Located in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban
