GAK Chuncheon was Naver's first self-built data center, opened in June 2013 on the outskirts of Gubong Mountain in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, roughly 100 km northeast of Seoul. The site was chosen for its cool climate and proximity to hydroelectric generation, letting the facility rely on outside-air free cooling for most of the year; Naver has cited an annual PUE below 1.2. Racks are built around 51U enclosures holding 44 servers each, with standard zones delivering about 6.6 kW per rack and select high-density server rooms reaching 11 kW. The building was the world's first data center to receive LEED Platinum certification and has been cited in international design surveys for its hillside site and extensive green roofing. More than a decade after opening, GAK Chuncheon remains part of Naver's production fleet alongside the newer, much larger GAK Sejong campus, though Naver has not disclosed current utilization or server counts for the older site.
