Originally built and operated by SK C&C (renamed SK AX in 2024), the Pangyo data center sits in the SK Pangyo Campus in Sampyeong-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, and was for years described by its operator as the largest single-scale data center in Korea. The complex spans roughly 80,377 square meters across two buildings; its main building rises six floors above ground with four basement levels, and draws 154 kV directly from the national grid, stepped down through on-site substations, with eleven 2,250 kW diesel generators as backup. The site became internationally known on 15 October 2022, when an electrical fire in a basement equipment room cut power and triggered a multi-day outage of KakaoTalk, Kakao Taxi, Naver's Daum portal and other services hosted there, exposing gaps in customers' own backup and failover planning. In May 2025 SK AX sold the 30 MW facility to SK Broadband for about 500 billion won as part of a shift away from owning physical data center infrastructure, folding Pangyo into SK Broadband's nine-site national IDC portfolio.
