Connectivity, not floor space, is the product at datamena, the carrier-neutral transit, content and colocation hub that UAE operator du (EITC) launched in October 2012. Housed in Dubai Production City (the former IMPZ), the platform was built to make Dubai a regional interchange for traffic between Asia, Africa and Europe, bundling colocation with bandwidth services and Tier 1 IP transit over du's national fiber network. It became the original home of UAE-IX, the region's first carrier-neutral internet exchange, initiated by the UAE telecom regulator and operated by Frankfurt's DE-CIX, which seeded an ecosystem of international carriers, regional operators, content and cloud providers interconnecting in one facility. du does not publish power or rack figures for the site, positioning it instead on ecosystem depth and reach into subsea and terrestrial routes. It suits carriers, CDNs, ISPs and enterprises that need a Middle East traffic-exchange point with direct access to du's network.
