Carrier-neutral data center

A carrier-neutral data center is a facility whose owner does not favor or restrict access to any single telecommunications carrier. Tenants can choose freely among all network providers present in the building. This contrasts with carrier-owned facilities, where connectivity is typically limited to the owner's network. Carrier neutrality fosters competition that lowers bandwidth prices and improves resilience through diverse providers; major carrier-neutral hubs host 50-300+ carriers and cloud on-ramps. Neutrality is a foundational requirement for internet exchanges and a key criterion in colocation site selection, particularly for content providers, CDNs, and enterprises running multi-carrier WANs. Most leading colocation operators, including Equinix, Digital Realty, and regional players across Southeast Asia, position themselves as carrier-neutral.
