Carrier-neutral data center

A carrier-neutral data center is a facility whose owner does not favor or restrict access to any single telecommunications carrier, allowing tenants to choose freely among all network providers present in the building. This contrasts with carrier-owned facilities, where connectivity is typically limited to the owner's network. Carrier neutrality fosters competition that lowers bandwidth prices and improves resilience through diverse providers; major carrier-neutral hubs host 50-300+ carriers and cloud on-ramps. Neutrality is a foundational requirement for internet exchanges and a key criterion in colocation site selection, particularly for content providers, CDNs, and enterprises running multi-carrier WANs. Most leading colocation operators, including Equinix, Digital Realty, and regional players across Southeast Asia, position themselves as carrier-neutral.
