Meet-me room (MMR)

A meet-me room (MMR) is a secure, dedicated space inside a data center where telecommunications carriers, ISPs, cloud providers, and tenants physically interconnect their networks via cross-connects. Carriers terminate their fiber in the MMR, and the facility operator runs structured cabling from there to customer cages and racks. Large carrier hotels may operate multiple MMRs with dozens to hundreds of carriers present; the number of on-net carriers in the MMR is a primary selling point for carrier-neutral facilities. MMRs are typically operator-controlled, with cross-connects installed only by facility technicians for security and cable-management reasons. A rich MMR shortens provisioning times and reduces connectivity costs by eliminating local access circuits from third-party providers.
