Cloud On-Ramp

A cloud on-ramp is a private data center connection that links a customer directly to a public cloud provider, bypassing the internet. Cloud providers offer it as products such as AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute and Google Cloud Interconnect, delivered at colocation facilities and network exchanges in specific metros. Customers gain predictable latency, higher throughput and lower data egress pricing than internet transfer, and often ordering ports from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps. Facilities that host on-ramps attract enterprise tenants building hybrid or multi-cloud architectures, which is why operators advertise the number of cloud on-ramps in a building. Check whether an on-ramp is physically in the building or reached through a partner circuit, because latency and cost differ.
