Monthly recurring charge (MRC / NRC)

Monthly recurring charge (MRC) is the ongoing monthly fee a colocation customer pays for space, power and cross-connects, typically billed per kW of committed power or per cabinet/rack, plus a separate non-recurring charge (NRC) — a one-time installation or setup fee — charged when the contract is signed. MRC is the core unit colocation price indexes, including this one, track and compare across markets, usually quoted per kW per month for wholesale deals or per rack per month for retail colocation. Pricing structures vary: some operators bill a flat per-kW rate regardless of actual draw ('committed' or 'reserved' power), while others meter actual consumption and add a separate power pass-through; contracts also differ on whether cross-connects, remote hands and network ports are bundled into MRC or billed as additional recurring line items. Multi-year contracts and larger commitments typically carry lower per-kW MRC than short-term or sub-100kW retail deals.
