Western Downs Digital Park (Zerra DC)

Singapore-headquartered developer Zerra DC has filed development plans for the Western Downs Digital Park, a 725-hectare campus at Kogan, roughly 37 km northwest of Dalby and 250 km inland from Brisbane. The project is designed around four air-cooled data halls of 360 MW each, totaling 1.44 GW at full build-out, making it one of the largest data center campuses proposed in Australia to date. Anthropic has agreed to take the first of the four halls, marking the AI lab's first Australian data center commitment, with capacity targeted to come online in 2027. The site was chosen for its access to regional transmission infrastructure and land availability away from Australia's congested eastern-seaboard submarkets, though the scale of the proposal — reportedly able to draw the equivalent of a quarter of Queensland's current electricity demand — has drawn scrutiny from local energy planners and residents over grid impact and water use. Phase one includes an on-site battery-backed power conditioning system and a dedicated 540 MVA substation. The proposal remains subject to Queensland planning approval, and Zerra DC has not disclosed a start date for site works beyond targeting the first hall for 2027.
