Why prices sit where they do
Australia is a high-cost market for a reason that appears on the utility bill before it appears in the rate: commercial power at $0.242/kWh is close to Singapore's $0.262 and more than double the $0.103 that Northern Virginia pays. Distance does the rest. At 202 ms from Sydney to Northern Virginia and 95 ms to Singapore, latency-sensitive Australian workloads cannot be served from anywhere cheaper, and sovereignty requirements on government and financial data keep them onshore even where latency would allow otherwise. Melbourne is the only other metro in our data.
