Mascom Innovation Centre Data Centre

Mascom Wireless, Botswana's largest private mobile network operator, built its Innovation Centre in the Phakalane area of Gaborone as a US$25 million, three-storey, 54-metre-high complex that opened in July 2012. The building combines a data center engineered to Uptime Institute Tier specifications, a dedicated energy center able to sustain operations through a power failure, and an office administration block. Mascom originally developed the facility to support its own growing technology and network operations, but during planning identified broader demand for secure, resilient, locally hosted digital infrastructure in Botswana and opened the data center to external colocation customers — turning what began as internal capacity into a national ICT asset. Mascom has not published specific IT power capacity, floor space or rack-count figures for the data center itself. The site now competes for enterprise colocation demand in Gaborone alongside BTC's Sentlhaga facility and Orange Botswana's newer Tier III Innovation Hub data center.
