AB1 is Equinix's first data center in Côte d'Ivoire, built inside the VITIB (Village des Technologies de l'Information et de la Biotechnologie) free zone in Grand-Bassam, a coastal town roughly 40 km from central Abidjan that Equinix markets under the Abidjan metro. The operator describes the site as strategically located for global subsea cable traffic, reflecting Grand-Bassam's role as a landing point on West Africa's Atlantic coast. Construction combines brick-and-mortar space with containerized modules, a hybrid build approach Equinix has also used at other newer African and Middle Eastern sites. Power distribution runs at 230V/400V with N+1 UPS redundancy, Novec clean-agent fire suppression, and a stated three-day generator fuel autonomy — longer than most Equinix sites disclose, consistent with a market where grid reliability is a known constraint. Minimum cabinet density is 3kVA. Equinix does not publish total facility power or floor area for AB1.
