Meta-Reliance AI Data Center Jamnagar

Announced on June 9, 2026, this built-to-suit campus in Jamnagar, Gujarat marks Meta's first data center commitment in India, developed and constructed by Reliance Industries with Meta as sole tenant. The initial phase is sized at 168 MW of IT capacity with options to scale further, and Meta has committed to covering the full cost of energy and water needed to run the site rather than paying a standard colocation rate. The facility's most distinctive feature is its cooling design: rather than drawing on freshwater or groundwater, a genuine constraint in water-stressed Gujarat, the site uses desalinated seawater, an approach not yet seen elsewhere in Meta's global data center fleet and one that signals how coastal AI campuses may need to solve water availability going forward. Power is sourced from renewables, aligning with nearly 1 GW of clean energy Meta has separately contracted across India through CleanMax (837 MW of solar and wind in Rajasthan and Karnataka) and Fourth Partner Energy (88 MW across four additional states). The campus will also connect to Meta's Project Waterworth subsea cable system, billed as the world's longest, giving the site direct international connectivity rather than relying solely on domestic backhaul.
