IIJ built the Matsue Data Center Park on a roughly 16,000 sqm site in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, as Japan's first commercially operated data center built from standardized shipping-container-style IT modules (branded 'IZmo'). Site 1 opened in April 2011 with around 100 racks; Site 2 followed in November 2013 on an adjacent plot with about 300 racks; a further System Module Building added roughly 300 more racks when it opened in June 2025. The original two sites share a combined maximum power-receiving capacity of 4,000 kVA, fed via dual-route high-voltage lines with N+1 UPS and on-site generators rated for at least 24 hours of continuous runtime. Cooling relies on outside (ambient) air rather than mechanical chillers, taking advantage of Shimane's climate to cut energy use. IIJ holds JDCC (Japan Data Center Council) facility-standard certification at Tier 3 for the site, with parts rated to Tier 4, alongside ISO 27001 (information security) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). IIJ has continued to expand the campus in phases, including plans for on-site solar generation at the newer module building.
