The Konza National Data Center anchors Konza Technopolis, a planned technology city about 60 km southeast of Nairobi that the Kenyan government has promoted as its 'Silicon Savannah.' Built with Huawei as part of a project financed through Chinese concessional loans, the facility evolved from an initial containerized data center completed in 2020 into a full Tier III facility completed in 2021. Konza Technopolis Development Authority, the state body developing the site, operates the center as a carrier-neutral facility offering Konza Cloud services, colocation and managed hosting to both government departments and private-sector customers, allowing tenants to choose among multiple network providers for connectivity. The data center is part of a wider 5,000-acre master-planned city intended to concentrate technology, innovation and business-process outsourcing activity outside the Nairobi metro area, and Konza has since signed partnerships, including with Saudi Arabia's KSA, around further cloud infrastructure development.
