Nxtra by Airtel Africa broke ground on its Tatu City data centre on 9 September 2025, the operator's second hyperscale facility on the continent after a 38 MW build under construction in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. The site is located at Tatu City, a special economic zone in Kiambu County roughly 15–20 km north of central Nairobi, and is described by Airtel Africa as the largest facility of its kind in East Africa once complete. The 44 MW campus is being built in two 22 MW phases and is designed to draw over 95% of its power from renewable sources, including solar, via Tatu City's dedicated 135MVA substation. Airtel Africa targets commissioning in the first quarter of 2027, positioning the facility to serve large-scale cloud workloads across East Africa alongside the operator's existing enterprise-focused Nxtra sites in the region.
