Datacom Kapua Data Centre

Kapua (Maori for "cloud") is Datacom Group's data centre on the northern fringe of Hamilton, opened in 2013 as one of four purpose-built, company-owned facilities in Datacom's New Zealand network alongside Orbit (Auckland), Abel (Wellington) and Gloucester (Christchurch). Datacom markets it as its most expandable New Zealand site, with useable power built out to 14 MW and physical capacity for more than 1,500 racks, aimed at cloud-computing tenants and high-density enterprise workloads. By its tenth anniversary in 2023, Datacom reported the site was serving close to 200 customers across roughly 500 occupied rack spaces, including businesses based in Australia. Datacom cites Hamilton's inland location as well connected for road, rail, power and data, with more than 40 connectivity providers reachable from the site. The facility holds ISO 27001 information-security and PCI DSS certifications, an ISAE 3000 attestation, and an Uptime Institute Management & Operations Stamp of Approval that the Uptime Institute registry shows has been renewed six times, a marker of long-running, actively managed operations rather than a one-off design or construction certification.
