Desert Dragon Data Centers broke ground on its Al-Kharj hyperscale campus in November 2024, the first of five planned sites — alongside downtown Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and NEOM — that the company says will total 187 MW and more than 7,000 high-density racks once complete. The project is a joint undertaking with China Mobile International and LMT Group, with ICS Arabia as main contractor, on a 25-year MODON industrial-land lease covering roughly 41,500 sq m at the Al-Kharj site. Desert Dragon markets the campus for sovereign colocation, enterprise colocation and hyperscale wholesale customers, offering direct-to-chip and immersion liquid cooling alongside conventional air cooling for AI and high-performance-computing workloads. The Al-Kharj phase is designed for roughly 59 MW of N+1 power, backed by eight 2.5 MW generator strings, while a smaller 6 MW facility is planned for downtown Riyadh. Uptime Institute has so far awarded only a Tier III Certification of Design Documents for KHS-1; no Constructed Facility certification has been issued, and the company's phased rollout is expected to run from 2026 to 2029.
