DataVita's Fortis facility, also referred to as DV1, sits in Chapelhall, North Lanarkshire, just off the M8 motorway roughly midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Opened in 2016 on an 8,000 square meter site, the facility currently makes 24 MW of power available to customers, with planning permission in place to expand capacity toward 40 MW as demand grows. Uptime Institute has certified the design and construction of the building to Tier III, and DataVita states it is the only Scottish facility to hold that combined certification. Cooling relies on indirect adiabatic evaporative technology, which the operator credits with a power usage effectiveness figure of around 1.15-1.2 without mechanical refrigeration for most of the year. The site draws its electricity from renewable sources backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin, and backup power is provided by N+N diesel generators with roughly 76 hours of on-site fuel storage.
