Google Council Bluffs

Council Bluffs was Google's first Iowa data center, following an initial $600 million investment announced in 2007 and construction completed in multiple phases since, including additions in 2012, 2015, 2024 and 2025. It anchors what Google now describes as more than $20 billion invested in the state, crediting its Iowa operations with $2.7 billion in economic activity in 2025 alone. In 2025 Google announced a further $7 billion in Iowa spending over two years, covering both an expansion of the Council Bluffs campus and a new build in Cedar Rapids, explicitly framed around cloud and AI infrastructure demand. Power sourcing has included an agreement with NextEra Energy to help revitalize Iowa's only nuclear power plant as part of the campuses' electricity supply. Google does not publish a power-capacity figure, building count or floor area for the site. The company also cites over 112,000 Iowans trained through its Grow with Google digital-skills programs and a $1.3 million contribution to a 47-site watershed grade-stabilization project tied to the campus's water use.
