Google Jackson County

Google's Jackson County campus in northeastern Alabama has operated since 2019 on a site the company redeveloped from a former coal-fired power plant. In 2026 Google announced a further $1.5 billion investment for 2026 and 2027 to expand the site, stating explicitly that it is funding 100% of the associated power and infrastructure costs itself rather than passing them to ratepayers — a point the company emphasizes in a state where data center electricity demand has drawn public debate. Separately, Google has a long-term agreement with Kairos Power and the Tennessee Valley Authority for up to 500 MW of advanced nuclear capacity, including a planned 50 MW Hermes 2 reactor near Oak Ridge, Tennessee, intended to help power both this Jackson County site and a companion site in Montgomery County, Tennessee, with operations targeted for 2030. Locally, Google has committed a $2 million Energy Impact Fund with TVA and CAANEAL for weatherization and efficiency programs, $550,000 in STEM kits for local students, and support for water stewardship in the Paint Rock River Watershed. No power-capacity figure, building count or floor area has been published for the site itself.
