TELUS Rimouski Data Centre (Sovereign AI Factory)

TELUS's Rimouski site began life as an Internet Data Centre opened in Quebec's Bas-Saint-Laurent region in 2012, built to the Uptime Institute's Tier III standard and LEED Gold design at the time. In September 2025, TELUS relaunched the facility as what it describes as Canada's first fully Sovereign AI Factory, converting the existing building into a dedicated AI-compute site running on NVIDIA GPUs with HPE-built infrastructure. The company states the facility draws on essentially 99% renewable, hydroelectric power from Quebec's grid, and by mid-2026 TELUS reported that Rimouski's AI capacity was fully sold out. TELUS now markets the building as Tier III and LEED Gold certified in its current business materials, alongside its original 2012 role. Rimouski is the first of what TELUS has framed as a national Sovereign AI Factory push, distinct from a separate three-site cluster the company is developing in British Columbia around Kamloops and two new Vancouver locations.
