Why prices sit where they do

Canada enters the catalog through Equinix's Toronto metro cluster: six operational IBX facilities in downtown Toronto, Markham and Brampton, none with a published power capacity in MW. TR2, at 45 Parliament Street, is by far the largest at 10,124 sqm; TR5 in Markham is the smallest at 833 sqm but runs 2N power and UPS redundancy, a tier above the N+1 disclosed at most siblings. TR1 and TR2 predate Equinix's 2020 acquisition of 13 Bell Canada data centers, which brought the other four sites into the portfolio at once — a single-deal history visible in near-identical certification blocks across every page. Power at $0.115/kWh sits mid-pack against this catalog's other markets, but the headline rate understates the real driver: Ontario's grid is roughly 90% nuclear and hydro, and large industrial users are billed wholesale plus the volatile Global Adjustment surcharge, whose partial relief for big loads is due to start phasing out in 2026.
