Why prices sit where they do

El Salvador's sole disclosed commercial colocation facility is DataTrust Data Center 1 in Ciudad Arce, roughly 37 km from San Salvador, which opened in July 2024 as the anchor tenant of the Altius Tech Park. Built by Grupo Codisa (since acquired by IFX Networks), it is described by its owner as the country's first Tier III-certified commercial data center, and the Uptime Institute lists both Tier III Design Documents and Constructed Facility certifications for the site. Disclosed capacity is 3.5 MW total with 1.6 MW of IT load, matched with renewable energy sourcing, across 322 racks. Business electricity runs $0.240/kWh (GlobalPetrolPrices, Dec 2025), among the higher Central American rates recorded here, partly reflecting reliance on regional interconnection via SIEPAC alongside domestic geothermal, hydro and thermal generation. A second Uptime-listed site in the country belongs to a bank's internal processing center and is excluded as non-commercial.

Frequently asked questions

How much does colocation cost in El Salvador?

No published wholesale $/kW benchmark exists for El Salvador yet, so we show nothing rather than an estimate. What is verifiable: the catalog tracks 1 facilities here. Run at least three quotes in parallel — where no benchmark is published, individual offers vary far more.

Why is colocation priced the way it is in El Salvador?

Commercial electricity in El Salvador is $0.240 per kWh, and power is the largest single input into a colocation rate. On top of that sit land and grid-connection availability, interconnection density, and how much capacity competes for the same tenants — 1 facilities in our catalog, 0 of them announced or under construction.

Where is colocation cheaper near El Salvador?

On power alone, Guatemala ($0.198/kWh), Honduras ($0.186/kWh) run below El Salvador. Whether that becomes a cheaper contract depends on how much interconnection the workload needs — the comparison table shows what latency the move would cost.
