Why prices sit where they do

Digital Realty (formerly Interxion) is the only operator disclosed in Greece, with four facilities across two sites: the three-building Athens Data Center Campus in Koropi, Attica (ATH1, ATH2, ATH3 — which the operator calls "the region's largest and most significant" data center campus, with ATH3 the largest single building at 8,600 sqm) and HER1 in Heraklion, Crete, described as "the region's first large-scale data center" and part of Digital Realty's Mediterranean strategy toward Asia, the Middle East and East Africa via planned (not yet landed) subsea cable routes. None of the four sites discloses IT power capacity in MW or a year-opened date; ATH1 and ATH2 share the fullest certification list (ISO 27001, 50001, 14001, 45001, 9001, 20000-1, PCI-DSS, LEED Gold), while HER1's compliance certifications are not published. Business electricity runs $0.221/kWh (GlobalPetrolPrices, Dec 2025), among the higher rates in the EU, reflecting an import-dependent, gas-heavy generation mix even as solar capacity expands.
