Italian telecom operator Fastweb opened its own data center in Milan on 14 April 2015, built on the site of its historic headquarters — a former AEM power station. At launch, Fastweb stated it was the first facility in Italy to hold Uptime Institute Tier IV certification for both design documents and the constructed facility, a distinction the operator has continued to promote. The company has since added ISO 50001 energy-management certification and ISO 14001 environmental certification, reporting a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25. Fastweb does not publish the facility's IT power capacity or floor space in its own press materials. The data center underpins Fastweb's national network and cloud services, remaining a Fastweb-branded facility distinct from the operator's broader edge and telecom infrastructure.
