Sakura Internet Ishikari Data Center

Sakura Internet's largest data center campus opened on 15 November 2011 in Ishikari City, on Hokkaido's Ishikari Bay New Port industrial area roughly 40 km northwest of Sapporo. Marketed by the company as Japan's largest suburban-type data center, the roughly 51,000 sqm site combines three buildings — two from the 2011 opening plus a third completed in 2016 — with a combined capacity of about 3,000 racks, fed from a 66,000V special-high-voltage line with dual-route backup. The facility was Japan's first large data center engineered around outside-air (free) cooling, drawing on Hokkaido's cold climate to avoid mechanical chillers for most of the year; Sakura reports a design PUE of 1.11, roughly 40% lower energy use than a comparable urban data center. An on-site solar installation feeds direct-current power to part of the load. The campus anchors Sakura's cloud and dedicated-server infrastructure and, alongside newer neighboring projects such as Tokyu Land's Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center, has helped establish Ishikari Bay New Port as a national data center cluster.
