Crusoe announced a second campus adjacent to its existing Abilene, Texas site, this one built specifically for Microsoft rather than the Oracle/OpenAI-linked Stargate campus next door. The new build comprises two buildings, each designed for 336 MW of critical IT load, for a combined 900 MW; Crusoe states that once combined with the existing campus, the full Abilene site reaches approximately 2.1 GW of total capacity. Land clearing and site preparation were underway as of the announcement, with the first building targeted for energization in mid-2027. The design includes dedicated behind-the-meter on-site energy infrastructure — an on-site power plant paired with a medium-voltage battery energy storage system intended to improve reliability and grid resilience — plus closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling built for ultra-high-density compute. Crusoe frames the project as an extension of the build-own-operate model already used at the neighboring campus, with construction expected to bring thousands of temporary jobs and hundreds of permanent positions to the Abilene region.
