Iron Mountain WPA-1 (Western Pennsylvania)

Iron Mountain's Western Pennsylvania data center occupies part of a 315-acre underground campus in a former limestone mine near Boyers, roughly an hour north of Pittsburgh, 220 feet below the surface. The site has served as the operator's flagship US records and information-management facility for decades, and the data center built into it uses a geothermal cooling system drawing on a 100-acre underground reservoir — recognized by the US Department of Energy as a Better Buildings Showcase Project — to cut mechanical cooling load. The facility offers 330,000 square feet of colocation space with 15.5 MW of capacity, N+1 electrical redundancy and A/B power feeds. Being underground gives the site natural protection from surface weather events and physical intrusion, a differentiator Iron Mountain markets alongside its standard global compliance stack (ISO 27001/50001/14001/22301/9001, SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, TIA-942, NIST 800-53, FISMA High, FedRAMP, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, HITRUST, EPA Energy Star). No specific Tier rating or opening year for the data center portion is published; the mine complex itself has operated as a Iron Mountain records facility since the 1950s.
