PowerHouse Charlotte

PowerHouse Data Centers, in a joint venture with real estate investor Town Lane, is developing a hyperscale campus on 122 acres near the I-485/US-49 interchange in University City, roughly 10 miles from downtown Charlotte. The companies' own announcements describe a targeted build-out of 300 MW, with potential expansion to 500 MW, across what PowerHouse has described in separate releases as either four buildings in two phases or five buildings totaling about 2.5 million square feet — the operator's own materials are not fully consistent on the final building count. Substation construction began in October 2025, with PowerHouse targeting roughly 15 MW of 'bridging power' available by the fourth quarter of 2026 ahead of full utility energization. The design incorporates reinforced, heavy-load roofs intended to support future cooling equipment and AI-class rack densities. As of this listing the campus is in active construction with no commercial operations yet underway; no Uptime Institute or other third-party certification has been published for the site.
