Google Mesa

Google broke ground on its Mesa, Arizona campus in 2023 and brought it into operation in 2025, joining Compass Datacenters, STACK Infrastructure and other operators already active in the Phoenix-area market covered elsewhere in this catalog. The facility uses air-cooled technology, a choice Google frames around limiting water draw in a desert market where data center water use has drawn local scrutiny. To power the site, Google worked with utility Salt River Project and NextEra Energy Resources to bring more than 430 megawatts of new carbon-free generation onto the grid, sourced from three named solar plants — Sonoran Solar Energy Center, Storey Energy Center and Babbitt Ranch Energy Center. Google has set a target of at least 80% hourly carbon-free energy for the Mesa campus by 2030, part of its broader company-wide goal of 24/7 carbon-free operation by the same year. The company has not published a construction-cost figure, IT power capacity, building count or floor area for the Mesa site itself; disclosed community contributions are limited to a $100,000 Mesa College Promise tuition grant and an annual tree-planting program.
