LG CNS built its Busan Global Cloud Data Center in the Mieum district of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, Gangseo-gu, after signing a construction agreement with Busan Metropolitan City in June 2011; the facility was completed in December 2012, about a year after groundbreaking, at a reported cost of roughly 170 billion won. LG CNS marketed it at completion as Korea's largest data center by floor area, with a first-phase server room of about 23,000 square meters designed to run up to 72,000 servers, drawing around 40,000 kVA of power. The building uses a patented built-up outdoor-air cooling system with dedicated exhaust design for server heat, and half of its roof carries solar panels. In December 2014 the site earned Korea's top A+++ green data center certification, with an annual average PUE of 1.39 that falls to about 1.15 in winter when outside-air cooling alone suffices — efficiency numbers that won it a Brill Award in 2014, the first Korean data center so recognized.
