Silk Cloud Tbilisi Data Center

Georgia has had colocation for years but no Uptime-certified commercial facility, and this project is the first attempt to change that. Silknet, the country's integrated fixed and mobile operator, started construction of a data centre in Tbilisi in August 2026; it will be developed by Silknet and operated by Silk Cloud, its wholly owned cloud and managed-services subsidiary. The facility is sized at 2 MW, aimed at cloud computing, AI workloads and enterprise services, engineered to obtain Uptime Tier-3 certification, and expected to be operational in 2027. Until it opens, Georgian enterprises needing certified facilities have generally placed workloads abroad or accepted uncertified local rooms, so the project reads as import substitution for regulated sectors — banking, insurance, telecoms, government suppliers — that face data-residency pressure. Two structural factors work in its favour. Electricity in Georgia is hydro-dominated and regulated tariffs sit below most European markets. And Tbilisi lies on the terrestrial route between the Black Sea cable landing at Poti and the Caspian crossing towards Kazakhstan, which gives the city genuine east-west transit relevance rather than purely domestic demand. Against that, 2 MW is small by regional standards and leaves little headroom for high-density AI racks, and the operator has not published floor area, rack counts, cooling design, redundancy topology or a rate card.
