NBO1 traces back to the East Africa Data Centre, opened by Liquid Telecom at Sameer Business Park on Mombasa Road in 2013 and later folded into the pan-African Africa Data Centres brand. Across four data halls, the facility holds an Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Design Documents covering its NBO1.1, NBO1.2 and NBO1.3 phases, which the operator describes as unique in East Africa. The site provides 2,000 m² of secured technical space with 7.5 MW of available site capacity, using hot-aisle/cold-aisle containment and, per Africa Data Centres' continent-wide operating policy, a water-free cooling design that relies on non-potable water rather than evaporative systems, supplemented by on-site solar generation. NBO1 connects to Africa Data Centres' pan-African fibre backbone and hosts a 24/7 security operations and service control centre. As the anchor of Africa Data Centres' Kenyan footprint, it competes with Digital Realty's rebranded Nairobi campus and IXAfrica's newer Mombasa Road facility for East Africa's carrier-neutral colocation demand.
